Brand Story: Melody Forged in Metal, Memories of Lin’an Brought to Life

Our design team traveled through the ancient city of Hangzhou, drawing inspiration from the fingertips of ping‑tan performers, carved patterns on garden window lattices, and reflections beneath water‑town stone bridges. As an iconic instrument of Jiangnan string‑and‑bamboo music, the pipa embodies the lyrical grace described in poetry “pearls large and small falling onto a jade plate”, as well as the delicate artistry of “plucking, twisting, brushing and picking gently”. We freeze this musical rhythm onto metal. The pipa head is decorated with imitation‑enamel painted details, while hollow‑cut sections on the pipa body incorporate landmarks such as Leifeng Pagoda, Broken Bridge Remnant Snow, and Spring Dawn on Su Causeway. Every fridge‑magnet piece becomes a tangible memory of Hangzhou. More than merely a bottle opener, it serves as a window opening onto the charm of Jiangnan.

About the Name

The pipa was originally named “piba”, derived from its playing techniques. In Hangzhou local dialect, it is affectionately called “Southern Pipa”, which stands in clear contrast to the “Northern Pipa”, highlighting its soft, delicate Jiangnan character.

Poetic Symbolism

“Southern Wu dialect melodies accompany pipa tunes; one ping‑tan song enchants thousands of households.” In Hangzhou, the pipa is far more than a musical instrument — it represents a way of life. From impromptu performances in teahouses to elegant accompaniment within classical gardens, it has long been woven into daily life in ancient Lin’an. This fridge magnet pays tribute to that timeless aesthetic.
